Kalon Gervin camped at Michigan State when he was a freshman, visited multiple times over the course of the next three years, and was visited by the staff at his school many times during that span.

So, it surprised some Spartan faithful when the Detroit Cass Tech cornerback committed to Notre Dame in February.

Gervin (5-11, 179 pounds) reconsidered and re-opened his recruitment earlier this month. Now with another opportunity to go through the recruiting process, he is considering a wide variety of schools, but the connection with Michigan State is one he says never dissipated even through his commitment to the Fighting Irish.

“It’s all family,” Gervin said. “They never fell off even when I was committed. Coach Dantonio would hit me up asking how I was doing.”

The Spartans are also recruiting several of Gervin’s Cass Tech teammates, so that has been a natural stop on their spring evaluation travels. He hopes to return the favor soon and get back to East Lansing.

“They are in contact,” he said. “I’m just keeping in touch with Coach Dantonio and Coach (Harlon) Barnett (MSU co-defensive coordinator). They are just trying to get me down to visit and come back and chill with them.”

Gervin has track speed, cover skills, and has been a strong performer at several offseason camps. His abilities have drawn offers from 43 schools.

In addition to Michigan State, Gervin said he hopes to visit Virginia Tech, Oklahoma, Oregon, Texas Christian and Louisville this offseason.

In an effort to make a good decision, he is not rushing his process this time around.

“I’m just taking my time,” Gervin said. “I will probably will release a top five at The Opening and go from there. I’ve got to take my time, no rush unless something happens.”

MSU offers Illinois lineman

Crystal Lake (Illinois) South offensive lineman Trevor Keegan, one of the Midwest’s top prospects in the 2019 class, was offered Wednesday by Michigan State.

Keegan (6-6, 290 pounds), visited MSU in early April and has additional offers from Minnesota and Northwestern.

He plans to return to Michigan State in June for their Spartan Elite Camp.

Michigan State has offered LaGrange (Georgia) Troup County’s Kobe Hudson, a class of 2020 wide receiver. Hudson (6-2, 189 pounds) now has offers from the Spartans, Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Miami (Fla.), Michigan and more.
