Hyder leads Lions in performance-based pay from NFL

Allen Park — Each year the NFL awards performance-based pay, a supplemental income that compensates players for playing time based on salary level.

This year, Detroit Lions defensive end Kerry Hyder earned an additional $264,082 through the program. He led the team with 8.5 sacks despite playing on a $450,000 minimum contract.

Cornerback Nevin Lawson and rookie center Graham Glasgow also cashed in, earning performance-based checks of $261,672 and $216,886, respectively.

Travis Swanson, Devin Taylor, Quandre Diggs, Brandon Copeland, Antwione Williams, Miles Killebrew, Zach Zenner, Khyri Thornton, Dwayne Washington and Thurston Armbrister each netted more than $100,000.

Oddly enough, even the team’s highest-paid player earned something. Quarterback Matthew Stafford scored a $7,782 check after playing every snap for the Lions in 2016.
