Beer drinkers and sweet tooths rejoice. Later this month, a new flavor is coming to town when Old Nation Brewing Company, in collaboration with Sanders and Morley Candy Makers, will release a new flavor, Bumpy Cake Ale, which will be available in 22-ounce bottles starting Oct. 27.

The Chocolate Fudge Bumpy Cake Double Brown Ale will be a limited-edition beer, brewed with cocoa and vanilla. This will be the second collaboration the two companies have rolled out; the first, Sanders Chocolate Stout, debuted in January.

Old Nation Brewing Company in partnership with Sanders and Morley Candy Makers, Inc. recently announced Limited Edition Sanders Bumpy Cake Ale 22-ounce bottles will be available for retail sale beginning Oct. 27, 2016.

“We are elated to display our expertise in developing handcrafted beer while paying homage to one of Michigan’s most iconic desserts,” said Travis Fritts, brewmaster of Old Nation Brewing Company, in a statement announcing the collaboration.

On Oct. 27, Old Nation will hold a release party at its pub at 1500 W. Grand River in Williamston, which is about 20 miles east of Lansing. There will be music. There will be samples of the new flavor. There will be discounts on existing flavors.

Fritts, in the statement, saw the collaboration as an opportunity to connect businesses from different parts of the state.

“We’re proud to offer a unique product that will not only bring joy to beer enthusiasts, but also connect many parts of the state,” Fritts said. “Our mid-Michigan based brewery is making beer for a Southeastern Michigan-based brand, and a Kalamazoo-based company is handling distribution.”

It's also a collaboration of different eras. Sanders dates back to 1875, just two years after The Detroit News was founded. Old Nation is operated by Fritts and partner Nate Ryske, the statement said. The two both have at least 14 years of experience brewing beer. Old Nation has paid for the right to license the Sanders brand, said Nakia Mills, director of media relations for Sanders.

Those who want to get an early line on the new brew can start by emailing either company. Sanders can be reached at info@sanderscandy.com, and Old Nation can be reached at info@oldnationbrewing.com.
