‘Family Feud’ to hold auditions in Detroit
“Family Feud” will be interviewing selected families Nov. 5-6 in the Detroit area. To schedule an audition, email a video of you and at least five family members introducing yourselves and doing anything you can to stand out. Send the video to detroit@familytryouts.com. Some rules apply. Family members must be related by blood, marriage or legal adoption and everyone must be a United States citizen with permission to work in the U.S. There can’t be any relation to anyone who works on the show, any affiliate that carries “Family Feud” or any connection with host Steve Harvey or any of his productions. Kimberly Gill to replace Carmen Harlan
WDIV-TV anchor/reporter Kimberly Gill has been tapped to replace longtime anchor Carmen Harlan, the station announced Monday. This comes few days after Harlan announced her retirement in November. Gill will join Devin Scillian and anchor the 5, 6 and 11 p.m. newscasts. The station also announced Local 4 Defender and First at 4 anchor Karen Drew will join Scillian for the 5:30 p.m. newscast. Gill and Drew will assume their new roles Nov. 14. Gill joined Local 4 in November 2014 and has anchored the 5:30 p.m. newscasts since December 2015. A South Carolina native, Gill said in a statement she feels as if Detroit “adopted” her as “one of its own.” The two-time Emmy winner was an anchor in Pittsburgh and Cleveland before joining WDIV.
Sofia Vergara teams up with Buca di Beppo
Actress Sofia Vergara and Italian restaurant chain Buca di Beppo have teamed up to raise funds for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. The charity campaign is called Meatballs 4 Niños and launched this week. The restaurant will donate $1 for every lunch and dinner meatball meal purchased, and the Emmy Award-winning actress will act as a celebrity ambassador. “It means so much to me that one of my favorite restaurants is supporting a cause so dear to me,” Vergara said in a press release. “We were able to help so many families with the success of the first ‘Meatballs 4 Niños’ program, it’s an honor to be able to help even more families in need!”
Horror filmmaker Herschell Gordon Lewis dead
Known for his campy, gore-filled films, Herschell Gordon Lewis died Monday at age 87, according to Something Weird Video, an exploitation cinema website. Lewis, aka “Godfather of Gore,” was known for his films “Blood Feast,” “Two Thousand Maniacs,” “She-Devils on Wheels” and “The Gore Gore Girls.”
