Lions will be without DE Ziggy Ansah vs. Packers

Allen Park — Both the Detroit Lions and Green Bay Packers will be without key defensive players for Sunday’s matchup.

On Friday, the Lions ruled out defensive end Ziggy Ansah while the Packers have said top cornerback Sam Shields will miss his second consecutive game with a concussion.

Ansah hurt his ankle on the third snap against the Tennessee Titans last week. ESPN is reporting that he is seeking a second opinion on the injury.

Detroit is also likely to be without linebackers DeAndre Levy (quad) and Antwione Williams (hamstring), who have both been ruled doubtful for the contest.

Eight others — cornerback Adairius Barnes (ankle), tight end Eric Ebron (back), defensive end Wallace Gilberry (abdomen), offensive tackle Riley Reiff (ankle), defensive end Devin Taylor (ankle), linebacker Kyle Van Noy (calf), defensive tackle Tyrunn Walker (calf) and guard Larry Warford (illness) — are questionable.

Lions rookie Washington set to stake out big-time role

Four of the five players the Packers have listed as questionable are starters.  Linebacker Clay Matthews, guard T.J. Lang, defensive tackle Letroy Guion and safety Morgan Burnett have been marked with the designation. 

No fines for Tate, Casey

Lions receiver Golden Tate and Titans defensive tackle Jurrell Casey avoided fines for their actions last Sunday.

Tate was flagged for unnecessary roughness after violently blocking a Titans defender from the side. Casey escaped an infraction after going low on quarterback Matthew Stafford and the league’s decision not to dock his paycheck confirms the legality of the questionable hit.
