Cass Tech-Oak Park showdown moved to Sunday

The Detroit News

Storms caused lengthy lightning delays at high school football games in southeastern Michigan on Saturday.

In the Prep Kickoff Classic at Wayne State, the marquee game was to be the third scheduled game of the day, Detroit Cass Tech vs. Oak Park at 6 p.m. That game will now take place on Sunday at 1 p.m.; the location remains Wayne State.

Saturday’s first game at Wayne State, River Rouge vs. Chelsea, started at noon but did not finish until after 5 p.m. due to the weather delays. River Rouge was leading 34-16 near the end of the third quarter when the first delay hit and was later declared the winner with no further game action.

The second game, Southfield A&T vs. Detroit King, was moved to 5:40 p.m. (scheduled 3 p.m. start) and event officials at that point decided to move Cass Tech vs. Oak Park to Sunday.
