Pro-peace mural artist leaves mark on Detroit building

The self-described ‘handwritten artist’ and creator of the World Peace Mural Tour known for large scale murals has spray-painted “world peace” thousands of times on a building on Detroit’s west side.

Renda Writer began covering the building at the corner of Grand River and Rosa Parks with the words “world peace” on Sunday. He was expected to finish Thursday.

“I just think it’s what we need,” he told The Detroit News.

Writer’s mural in Detroit is the second in his World Peace Mural Tour, where he plans to create the mural in five U.S. cities. Boston was the first stop, his website said.

He heads to Washington, D.C.; Philadelphia; and New York City before the end of September.

The “world peace” mural is not Writer’s first in Detroit, and in September 2015, he completed a similar mural on the side of the N’Namdi Center for Contemporary Art, painting “Black Lives Matter” on the side of the Midtown building.
