Homicide detectives are working to figure out the circumstances that led to a 65-year-old man being pulled out of a car and then fatally shot early Tuesday morning on Detroit’s west side, police said.

The fatal shooting took place about 2:25 a.m. on the 15000 block of St. Marys, which is between Grand River to the south and Fenkell to the north.

The 65-year-old man was a passenger in a blue Chevy Impala, which was occupied by two other males, said Sgt. Michael Woody of the Detroit Police Department.

At some point, Woody said the driver of the vehicle stopped and the men pulled the man outside of the car, shot him, then got back in the Impala and drove off.

The man died from his injuries.
