A motorcycle passenger was killed and the driver seriously injured early Monday in a rear-end collision on the Southfield Freeway in Dearborn, according to police.

The motorcycle, driven by a 21-year-old Detroit man, rear-ended a Dodge vehicle just after 12 a.m. Monday on northbound Southfield Freeway near Ford Road, police said. The driver was rushed to an area hospital with serious injuries while his female passenger, a 21-year-old Southfield resident, was fatally injured.

“The driver of the Dodge sustained minor injuries and was transported to an area hospital,” police said of the 19-year-old Detroit resident. “It is unknown if alcohol played a factor in the crash, but it appears speed was a contributing factor.”

Police are not releasing the identifies of those involved while the department attempts to contact next-of-kin.

The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact Dearborn Police Lt. Gary Mann at (313) 943-2006. Anonymous tipsters may call Crime Stoppers at 1 (800) SPEAK UP, go to the Crime Stoppers website or text “CSM” and the tip to CRIMES (274637).
