Boat raised after sinking for 2nd time in 3 years

Associated Press

Ludington — A fishing boat is floating again after sinking for the second time in the past three years while tied up for the winter in western Michigan.

The Ludington Daily News reports the boat named Sandy was raised from the icy waters of Pere Marquette Lake in Ludington on Thursday after two days of efforts to get it out of the water.

The boat went down last weekend. Its operator Levi Stone says he’ll seek a way to remove it from the water in the coming week. The boat is licensed for commercial fishing by the Little River Band of Ottawa Indians.

The boat has been inspected by the Coast Guard. Absorbent pads were dropped into the water to soak up any fuel or oil that may have leaked.
