A 24-year-old Highland Park man who allegedly slashed his ex-girlfriend’s throat was arraigned Sunday for open murder.

Tyshawn Bost, who is still on parole after serving nearly five years in prison for home invasion and torturing/killing an animal, is charged with open murder for the alleged March 4 slaying of Tiris Ranee Doss, 21.

During his video arraignment in Romulus’ 34th District Court, Bost was remanded to the Wayne County Jail without bond by Magistrate Linda Mack.

According to police, someone dialed 911 at about 7:30 a.m. Friday to report family trouble at a house in the 14000 block of East State Fair.

Officers arrived and knocked on the door, but no one answered, Detroit Police Officer Nicole Kirkwood said.

“They looked inside and observed what appeared to be blood,” Kirkwood said.

As the officers entered the house, they heard Bost trying to escape through a back door, police said. Bost was arrested without incident.

When the officers searched the house, they found Doss in a closet suffering from a fatal cut to the neck.

Bost, who has a tattoo of the word “fantastic” on his left forearm, was released from prison in May, after serving nearly five years for a 2009 home invasion and torture/killing of an animal in Macomb County, according to Michigan Department of Corrections records.

His parole was to end in May 2017.

When Mack asked Bost if he had the money to hire an attorney, he replied, “I don’t know, because I haven’t been able to call my parents.”

A pre-trial hearing has been scheduled for March 16, with a preliminary examination set for March 23.

Open murder is a charge that allows prosecutors to later charge a defendant with multiple types of murder or manslaughter.

Arraignments for Wayne County defendants, including alleged crimes that occur in Detroit, are often held in the Romulus court on weekends.
