DPD seeks warrant after arrest in Detroit woman’s death

One arrest has been made in connection with the death of a 24-year-old Detroit woman who went missing last week after heading on a date with a man she met on a social media escorting website.

The Detroit Police Department is preparing paperwork to submit a warrant request to the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office, Sgt. Cassandra Lewis said Friday afternoon.

Late Thursday night the Oak Park Public Safety Department erroneously said two arrested in the city on Thursday in connection with the case. The department then referred questions to Detroit police, who have been investigating Cynthia Worthy’s death.

Officers found Worthy’s body Monday evening in the 4000 block of West Davison on Detroit’s west side. The Wayne County Medical Examiner’s Office said an autopsy determined Worthy died from multiple stab wounds to the chest.

The Flint native was last seen at her home on Cortland around 3 p.m. Aug. 14; relatives said she planned to go on a date with a man she had met online.

Relatives created a GoFundMe account to help pay for funeral and burial costs. More than 80 people had donated about $2,500 of the $3,000 goal through early Friday.
